The challenge of lighting the ceiling surface at night, yet also controlling direct sunlight, was innovatively solved with custom designed screened light shelves. These light shelves, fabricated by Jon Chalfant of Randazzo and Chalfant Design and Fabrication, simultaneously reflect light up while allowing dappled, sparkling light to pass through.

To avoid recessed lights in an insulated ceiling, custom "hang straight" mounting plates were used with simple porcelain sockets and PAR16 lamps hung on white cord for this LEED rated house.

Kitchen overhead and under-cabinet lighting accentuates the metal and glass materials used in the architecture.
